Camping in a Ranger?

ive always just slept on the ground beside the fire .. been a few times go to cold and slept in the cab of the ranger..

I dont camp with the ranger, it wouldnt make the drive. Least not economically. I have the expedition for that.

I have a friend who wants to sell me a high top camper shell, so I,m thinking about the same thing the next time I go camping Which shoud be in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, this is what I want to do, I'm planning on installing some awesome Hella dome lamps in my camper shell. I want it well lit and I would definitely use a air mattress "Truck Bedz" mattress.

OK...don't laugh...but when I cut the back out of my first Ranger I put a cap on and tried insulating it...worked out pretty good and it would have been way better if I had put a secondary heater into the bed...but it was still pretty darned cold in the winter...especially the nights when it got down to -30...

Here is a pic of the partially finished cap...

Do you have carpet back there?

mine came with a cap and carpeted plywood sections, there is even foam between the carpet and plywood. its nice for long trips, my 14 y/o can just strech out in the back. (she's a bit big now for the jump seats) ive never slept back there, i prefer the reclined seats in the cab, i can fire up the motor once in a while for heat if need be. if it were a std cab, id use the back though.

I had pieced together plywood pieces that were wrapped in the trunk liner and underpad from several old Tempos (because I happened to have had one at the time and this stuff is good insulation), and had covered the entire inside with that heat reflector material...it wasn't too bad, but because the bed and cab are mounted separately they tended to flex a bit and this caused some issues with gaps...

It would make a great trail rig, but I don't have any more pics of the build...what I did was remove the rear window, and cut down on the rear of the cab and the front of the bed about 6" and folded the piece over and then bolted the two together...it left enough of the cab wall to provide a bit of stability because when the rear wall is removed the cab structural integrity is compromised...

If I was going to do it again I would either use a BII body or just use a BII because it's already done...just a bit shorter than the Ranger bed

When I did mine I used a high rise cap. I put some carpet in the bed and tucked it under the bed rails and trimmed it to fit the tailgate. Then I just slid my old twin size mattress in, threw in a few pillows, blankets and a sleeping bag and said done. Its really nice to go to party's with because you can just stay in your truck ( :hottubfun: ) and sleep.

i have a bII, if its just me i sleep across the back seat, and if im with a girl i fold the seats down and sleep in the back. im sure some of you guys are thinking that back seat is a little small but im 19, 6'3" and about 230# if it works for me it will prolly work for alot of people. FYI those back seats are really comfy.

ive always wanted somthing like this

for the back of my B2. and maybe make an extension panel so my legs arent hanging out the back at my knee's

I had a friend in high school who had a 1993 F150 which was carpeted and he always had sleeping bags and pillows in the back. When we went fishing he'd sleep in the bed of his truck, he said it was pretty comfy. If there weren't so many damn mosquitoes out here I'd camp in the bed without a topper.

i bet if someone took there time and knew how to make stuff work it could be real cool

i would give the cab 1 inch of lift and place rubber bushings/body mounts under bed, thats just me, being the cab has body mounts and the bed is directly bolted down, then probally run a 1/4 inch plate bolted to the floor of the bed and cab on the underside, and brace the roof somehow(may not be needed after the above)
