I used a cam from Camcraft last summer in an 86 Ranger 2.9 and the owner is happy but he drives a 1.4 liter VW so he's got low standards. I read somewhere here that you can use 2.8 pistons to boost compression. It'll never approach the power of a V8 but it would be easier and require less fabrication.
