My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
'93 4x4 5 spd 96k orig miles (yes low). Cam synchro is squeaking again for the 3rd time....

1st replacement was some aftermarket brand AFR...squeaking after a few thousand miles.
2nd replacement I tracked down a NOS motorcraft on fleabay...again a few thousand miles but more years. I think Covid time or just before is when I did that one. I don't drive it much.

Now it is squeaking again. I mean other stuff is too, and mostly go away after driving a bit....but the chirp remains.

Both times I soaked the gear in oil before installing. I used engine assembly lube to keep the oil pump rod centered. IIRC the 2nd time I was able to do it without removing the lower intake, just had to see with my fingers.

Is there anything I can do to not have to do this again? Is there an upgrade or retrofit so I am not stuck with old stock or aftermarket junk? OEM part is discontinued for this year model.

Looking like a beater is cool, sounding like it is not.

I wonder if a dose of electronics cleaner/lube (the stuff used for old stereo volume knobs) would help here?

Just thinking that the mechanical part should be lubed by engine oil. That only leaves the electrical part up top.
