Ok so I just ordered my new cam synchro today. It's not a Motorcraft unit, but it's a Dorman unit. I didn't have the money for a Ford so I just got the Dorman. I seem to have good luck with Dorman stuff so i decided to get that because it includes the alignment tool and sensor along with the synchro. I know how to replace the synchro and I've read the tech page on it, but I've never done it before. Can I get a difficulty rating on 1-10, 1 being easy and 10 being extremely difficult please? Any advice for a novice synchro guy? Also, about how long does it take to change them out? This Ranger is my DD and my only way to get around so I want to do it right. Thanks in advance guys!

You're the lucky one then because those Dorman Syncs are complete garbage!

Mine started to squeek couldn't find one for my year so I took it apart and greased it and put it back wish I could have bought a new one.To the point though I marked where this one was and put it back to the marks.Wasn't high tech but hard to get to.

Well I don't plan on anything hardcore on the engine so hopefully it will last me quite a while. I mostly drive at low speeds and gently and when I do offroad it's very mild. Hopefully it will last me a good while until I can afford a Motorcraft synchro.

Ok so I got my newsynchro today and it's nice. Metal gear too! Hopefully it will last a long while before I need to replace it again. Going to replace it tomorrow and pre-lube it with some castrol edge for easy install. Any last tips before I go for it?

mine was pretty easy just difficult to get to. just remember to make sure it goes back on EXACTLY how it came off and all should be good!

Alrighty then. I'll do it tomorrow and hopefully the death squeal will be gone!

You should be fine. Like everyone says you just have reach when you are pulling it out especially if the truck is lifted at all. But outside of that just read up on the process in the tech library and its not bad and saves like 500 bucks in labor. It took me about 3 hours but it was snowing outside and about 45 minutes of that was spent eating lunch.

i put the dorman in my daughters truck it seems to be ok but it was so simple to install i took the sensor off the top and marked where the tab was on the syncro pulled it out and re-installed the new one in the same spot just like putting in a dist. took me less than an hour but it has to go back exactly in the same place

Just took care of it and the death squeak is GONE! I even revved her up nice and hard and no squeaky bullcrap!

Yeah not bad. I did have to have my small friend Wayne get up in the engine bay to help me though. I'm too big to get up in there.

Dorman has been around since 1918, I dont think they would have lasted that long if all they sold was junk.

Exactly my thought. I have always been really pleased with all their stuff that I've used.
