having problems finding hall effect cam sensor and drive unit. dealer no longer stocks item. aftermarket suppliers cant seem to get. only fits 93-96 rangers. mazda p/u also uses this sensor because of ford motor application. must not be a popular item or not a big need for. drive unit has a clear window on top to align sensor when installing.

What I'm looking for is the "flat top hall effect" style sensor. Early years 93-95 4.0L. They plug into the top of the sensor(not the side like later models). Both the above parts stores have the later one available, not the earlier. Thanks but still looking. Joe

I have used the 95+ Sensor on a 94 with 94 wiring. I went through H*LL looking for that sensor for those years and they wanted $300 for it, I was like umm no. Since the motor I had bought was a 97 it already had the 95-up CAM Sensor, i just made an adapter connector by soldering the newer connector onto the older harness. the wire colors are exactly the same and goto the same place. In my case it was free. but I know they work with the older 93-94 computer. I have never had any trouble and have passed California Smog check twice since with flying colors. Hope this helps make it easier!

I'm in the same boat, you are sure the 95-97 style works.with no check engine light??Do you have one for sale?? Is it 4.0 only or the 3.0 also? Thanks Mark.

Hey everyone, I have a similar problem. I'm in the process of putting a 94 4.0 in my 97 Explorer. I've ran into a few problems, but have overcome them all so far except the cam sensor. My 97 engine has the cam sensor but the 94 has the top of the sensor missing. I marked and removed the 97 and 94 sensors at #1 TDC to try to align them up to swap them out. The 97 sensor and shaft assy wont slide all the way down into the block. So i got a 94 sensor assy from a donor and was just gonna use it and splice the wires in for the 97 wiring, but I need to figure out if i could use the 97 sensor assy or just figure out how to align the marks for the 94 and splice it to the 97 wiring. Any help, advice, hints, or whatever useful info I can get would be greatly appreciated. I have to get this thing going soon as its my only vehicle.

Thanks,
Robert
