I am working on a 98 2.5L.
I been searching and can't find a answer.

I am replacing the T-Belt, the problem I am having is lineing up but the Cam gear.
With everything lined up, I can't get the belt to fit the cam gear with out moving it a half a tooth.
It runs but it stumbles trying to rev it up and on a VAC test the needle wabbles + or - 5 psi so I know the valve timing is off.
Can the cam gear slip?
or am I missing something?

are you sure the tensioner is backed off completely? you have to line up the cam gear and the aux gear.

the back timing cover will have a diamond and a triangle. match the symbols up... i've seen many people be tricked by the 3 timing marks on these cam sprockets.

just make sure all the marks line up after rotating the crank 2 times and you're good to go.

I am pretty sure everything is lined up. The T-belt kit cam the really good instructions with pics.
Match the triangle with the triangle for the cam, diamond with diamond on the oil pump. Crank dot the the mark on the cover. The crank key was at the 12 o'clock and with the oil pump at 12 o'clock. 4 o'clock for the cam.
I put the belt on clockwise starting at the cam. keeping it tight between the cam, pump, and crank, with the slack at the tensioner.
The problem I am having is, I can keep the crank and pump were thy need to be, but the cam I have to move a half a tooth eather way.

IF I can say Mine had two markings. One looks like this arrows or triangles end to end <> and one with just one triangle ( the one with just one triangle) is the correct marking. See my garage pics of the belt marks . Hope this helps.

figure it out? how do the marks line up after you rotate the crank 2 revolutions

I'll be working on the truck this weekend. if I cant figure it out, i'll take some photos of what is going on.

I had the same issue, and have yet to fix it (planned on it today, actually). My idea was to check which direction the belt pulls when you let the tensioner go and compensate for it. I was thinking if you let it slack on the one side and then let the tensioner pull it tight the other direction, the timing marks should get pulled back inline. Not sure if it will work, but that is what I am trying today... after I get my lazy self going.

My belt was off almost a half tooth on the cam gear when i installed my new belt. truck runs perfect. only thing I would say is try the cam on the other side of the mark and see if it's better. if not you probably have another problem that coincidentally showed itself after the t-belt change. Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

What I said in my other post worked for me. When the belt snapped back, the marks lined up.

After i drive it for a bit, i tore it all apart and found that everything is lined up. well the cam is about 1° off know.
I feel stupid for asking know. i guess there is some stretching of the belt when its driven.

I do have to say i not liking FORD ECU's no check engine light with a bad O2. i just happened to find it when i was looking at the live data.
I know the 11bit CAN in the E250 lights the check engine light for just about anything.

Thanks for everyones help
