DAMMIT! IM HOOKED

Nice - going from white to black is a hard one. Looks like flat black - oh that must be Herculiner - LOL. There are a few white edges poking through, but overall looks good.I also noticed one that will make you go DOH! - the reflection - hehehe. Not making fun, just something I have done on occasion. I like your selections though - clean.
Hooked - nah the bug has only began to nibble - wait til you are driving around, see a car or truck and begin thinking of what you could do in PS - now that is hooked or in my case obsessed.

Keep it up man - in no time you will be challenging me . . .

Right, I do a bit of Photoshopping, so I figured I'd stick a few of my favorite creations up. I use photoshop CS3, that's what I've got at home. The last couple pictures were done in PS 7.

One of the things we had to do in school was create a logo for a made up game company called Messiax FX... So here are a few of the logo's I experimented with. These are all from scratch.

And the final logo that I submitted:

Here's one of my favorite car related photochops:

Its a Peugeot 205 Gti (french car) that I photoshopped for a competition on a Peugeot 106 Forum.

The other program I used extensively in school was something called 3Ds Max. Its a industry standard 3D modelling program used for modelling, animations, etc. The software alone costs like 3 grand! Its been used in many different movies such as the Matrix, Harry Potter, I-Robot, Toy Story etc etc.

The assignment was to create a mech or walking robot type thing. Here's one of the renders of my model. I can't find any of the ones with the final textures applied. It looks much better, and a lot more realistic when the final textures, lighting, etc are applied.

Bear in mind this was created totally from scratch; each and every part had to be modelled separately and then assembled together to make the model. There's about 80 hours in the modelling alone:

The next creation/photoshop/model was done for a design class. I was assigned the task of redesigning an existing product, and I chose to redesign a power-washer handle/gun.

The final product (actual model that I made) looked like this:

The models of it, that I had to provide in the write up, looked like this:

Its pretty basic cuz there aren't any proper textures in it, but compared to the other kids models it was top notch! :icon_thumby:

Here's something I did in PS 7 while bored and messing around in school one day. Only takes a few minutes to do:

There's other stuff I've created from scratch, but I can't find it. I also like doing some video editing in Premiere, as well as work in Adobe Flash. I've got the whole Adobe Suite, its great for editing stuff, and once you master one program, the basic ideas carry right over to the next one making it easy to learn!

Very nice work - I really like the 3D stuff, I work with AutoCAD 2004 MDT (Mechanical Desktop) newer versions though changed names. Not much interoperability with PS though.

Nice design and fab work as well - keep going with it and you can write your own ticket as these are skills needed now and the future.

The 205 looks good also, a few blurry edges, but overall a very nice job on it.

Welcome to TRS, we are always glad to have another PS user join us:icon_bounceblue:. Feel free to help with requests if you feel you can do them, if not someone will do it. If you have a question or tip please post them in the Questions thread.

Keep up the good work . . .

Thanks man, I really enjoy photoshop a lot more than the modelling. Er I say that-I like doing CAD work but the 3D modelling and animation stuff-especially when its kind of "fantasy" related is not really my forte. If I had been allowed to, I would have much rather modelled a car or motorbike of some sort. My teacher is a very video game oriented person, he loves all that stuff, while I'm not so much into it. Thats the reason for the robot crap. :icon_rofl:

I'm not actually much of an artist at all, I dont enjoy art classes, and I'm terrible at drawing, however I manage okay in photoshop somehow. I seriously can't manage anything past stick figures! I think thats maybe why I like the computer so much; I can accomplish things in photoshop or with the use of 3D modelling that I'd never be able to do freehand.

My biggest weakness in photoshop as far as chopping a car are changing the paint color, and doing wheel changes. I'm convinced that the most important part of a wheel swap is finding the right picture. Getting one at the correct angle is always difficult but I think it'd be pretty easy once you have a good donor photo. I've managed to perform a few color changes on cars, but I'm not usually very pleased with the results so I tend not to do it on competition pieces.

Anyway, thanks for the warm TRS welcome, you've got some really nice work yourself! I really liked the colorized photo of that girl you did! Is photoshop something you picked up because of school/job/profession, or is it just a hobby for you? I started it because of school, however its become more of a hobby now.

Also: A tip for everyone! Do a google search for photoshop tutorials! If you want to figure out how to do something, you can almost always find a tutorial to learn how to do it! This is a great way to teach yourself new things or just brush up on old skills if you've forgotten something. Tutorialized.com is a great site for all kinds of graphics related know how; I used to use it all the time in school, and I still use it from time to time when I'm learning how to do things in Premiere!

Thanks - I have added that link to the questions thread with all the others. Looks like a decent tut site.

I began doing PS on version 5.5 after getting a copy from a friend to do some things for work at that time. I enjoyed it so much I eventually bought the full version for myself and wasn't stuck with a work copy. I have been using it for over 10 years now and continue to use it for personal and work related projects. I am currently helping to freshen up some of the graphics here at TRS.

Changing paint colors can be frustrating at first and there are many different ways to do it. I have used adjustment layers and layer blend modes to differing degrees to get the color or effect I wanted. There is a link in my Q thread to photshopchop - check it out. Awesome site for auto chops with great tutorials on how to do things with cars. They also have a small section for the other works you have done - modeling.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums (1st post actually) and I was wondering how Mtrhd did the dot drawing effect on the picture of the Ferrari. I'm not a genius with photo shop but I'm alright at it. Is there any basics to doing a picture like that? Thanks.

Mikes Mountain - oops - MountainMike - LOL

I would do that one by desaturating the image, raising the contrast a bit, and then Filter-Sketch-Graphic Pen and play with the sliders and drop boxes until you like it. Just one method.

Yea its actually really easy to do, I'll see if I can remember and run through it really quick for ya.

First you're gonna want to duplicate the background layer (or whatever layer your image is in)

Now check and make sure your foreground color is black.

Next step is to go Filter>Other>High Pass

Now in the box that comes up, you're going to want to choose a VERY small radius, something under 1 pixel. Can't remember what I used in that Ferrari picture but it was something like .4 of pixel. You can mess around with it, just make sure you don't overdo the radius.

Next go to Filter>Sketch>Note Paper

Then your going to want to choose an image balance of around 25, but again you can experiment. Choose a Graininess of 0, and a Relief of 0.

After this go to Image>Adjustments>Threshold, and then move the slider until you see a purely black and white drawing. Somewhere around 180 should be about right.

From here you can use the paintbrush and pencil tool to clean up stray pixels and remove anything out of the drawing that you don't want.

There's nothing magic about the values I gave you, so just play around with them a little bit. You should end up with something similar to that Ferrari. The one thing I'll say is this doesn't work very well with photos that have lots of little patterns or details. But you should be able to do this in about 5 minutes, so experiment and see how it goes!

Good information there Mtrhd2004 - I need to start a tutorial/how-to thread. I like your steps - haven't used those tools before - may have to try them out.
Thanks for the input.

Thanks for all the help, I'll have to take a good picture of my truck and try that. I'll post it here when I can.

tpking: Was there supposed to be an original or before pic? I have seen a lot of works by Hussain 1 - very very talented.

My horrible chopjob.

This is what I want to build someday, Its a 1999 Ford Windstar Sport on bogger tires. I call it "The Gator". It was inspired by my mothers minivan. The thing has more torque than my ranger :(

I'm still debating the visor. I don't really like it. It may be because its either out of proportion, or just plain ugly.

I give you credit for the 4 wheel steering :icon_cheers:
