When I was a kid I had a little nitro RC buggy. It ran on 2 stroke methanol but was glow plug fired. (You had to start it with this battery powered lighter thing to fire the glow plug) Didn't even have piston rings, just a replaceable cylinder sleeve. I think it turned like 30,000rpm and would do 60mph. Centrifugal clutch and no reverse. I saved up paper route money for 2 years to buy it. I think it was like 400 bucks.

Aluminum chassis, real gas adjustable shocks, it was insane for the time...

My nephews buddy had a small gas fired R/C over at the house one day. Thing would friggin fly and sounded like a super pissed off weedwacker. I think he said it turned 30,000rpm to.

I can't call you a child at all..

I built a mostly billet 3.3 nitro engine for my Traxxas Revo and was easily exceeding 50,000rpm with it before I blew it in to about 14 pieces. Billet crankshaft, billet H-beam rod, billet piston, heavily modified sleeve to adjust port timing, billet head, ceramic high speed crank bearings, etc..

The Revo is the most advanced RC model in history as far as suspension design. It was worlds above anything else on the market at the time, and still is really. Mine would do 360 flips from a stand still and move no further than a few feet in the process. Wheelies at 40+ mph on demand. 65+ mph top speed, 2 gears, with brakes. I jumped my friends 2 story house with it once, and cleared the roof easily. lol

The drawback is the $$$$$ you sink in to them, but they stay fun for far longer imo. The crawlers and scale stuff gets boring fast to me. I built a tube chassis buggy with Clodbuster axles and lathe motors and it was strong enough to pull me if enough weight was applied to it. It would break your fingers if you got them caught around the tires.

Custom 4 link, trimmed tires, 4 wheel steering with self-centering rear steer, billet hardened axle shafts and gears, lathe motors, custom aluminum suspension links and servo mounts, etc.. The thing would climb any obstacle known to man.

I later sold it for $750 on Ebay.

Original Clodbuster... I got it for Christmas 1988.
Also an original Lunchbox painted to match the box art, another Lunchbox behind that one, a Yokomo GT4 (w/ an 89 full size Bronco body), a Kyosho Turbo Ultima II (triggered conversion), and a Kyosho Mad Armour (.28 Novarossi w/ 3spd... it will wheelie through all 3 gears).

I have a first gen Ranger lexan body around somewhere. Still need to fit that to a chassis and paint it... one of these years.

@Bird76Mojo how did you jump a 2 story house and it not explode on landing? Lol.

It would take hits like that very well depending on the landing surface. I did crack the rear bulkhead that held the rear diff when it landed, but other than that it survived and drove away, landing in a grass backyard. With the brakes you could easily jump a single story house and do a couple backflips in mid-air and still stick the landing. With the right ramp of course.

It took a large, steep ramp and a wide-open run down pavement at around 65mph but it barely cleared the peak of the roof. I still wish I would've video'd it.

My first attempt I lost control of it and it slid head on in to the end of a steel culvert and the only damage was it busted the front upper and lower control arm and bent the tie rod. I had some RPM nylon spares and some upgraded thicker aluminum tie rods, so I was back at it in about a half hour.

We ran it next to my truck once to gauge it's top speed and we got up to around 64 or 65mph and it was getting squirrelly on me, and we about ran over it. It felt like it had a few more mph in it but not much. I didn't want to attempt it again after almost flattening it. lol It went under the truck in to the ditch on the highway.
