Those fires are pretty common down there. With the huge influx of people in just the last 10-20 years it's no wonder people are getting into contact more with them. I left Oceanside in 1996 and earlier this year I was having trouble finding my house on Google Earth. Turns out, my subdivision which was on the outskirts of Oceanside is now smack in the middle of the city with a bunch of plazas around it, a new 6-lane going by it and ten miles of new subdivisions in every damn direction.
You'll see these getting worse but the fires aren't worse, people just live where they didn't use to.
That said, nobody likes seeing other people's homes get destroyed and I also have family in Oceanside in the form of in-laws.
