ready for the swap, upgraded cooling system and brakes, lif kits on the way, about to buy an explorer and gut it out, honestly the mechanical aspect of the project doesn;t scare me nearly as much as the god damn EPA in cal we have to smog our vehicles, and i know that you can go the the smog ref. for aproval but have any of you gone throught it? any pointers? is it even worth the agravation ? any feed back fro fellow cal saters would be greatly appreciated , thanks

Last I heard, but its been a while the smog ref's were on aahhh vacation due to the budget....something you might want to check in to...

other than that get ready to jump threw some hoops. make sure that everythig is up to date. IE that the exp is as new or newer then the truck your swaping in to.

make the install as clean as possible to look as factory as possible. will save you a few head aches with the refs. as some of the refs use common sense, and some of them are just "books worms"

I think there are a few thread on dezertrangers.com that will give you some more overall helpfull info as most are from the cali area and have done it a few times.

hide your guns from yourself now...so your not tempted

stock up on beer now, you may need it. lol

Ive only been threw the refs once and that been soem time ago 10 plus years ago, putting a 454 in to a 6cyl chevy. and got failed for not having the plastic color coded vaccum lines....spent the money on those dam things, to have the next ref laugh and say I dont see what the problem with that was, and passed me along.

if your swapping a 95 or newer 4.0 its a non issue if you use all the oe equipment.

best bet is to hire a local smog guy on the side for a few hours as a consultant...figure 120 bux or so for two hours of his personal time if you can find one that is willing and they will advise/point you in the direction to pass easily.

yes it would be good to borrow a little smog machine time to make sure it will pass before going to a ref. and get some good advise in the process. do you smog every two years where you are?
