Calif Smog failure.87-95 Rangers

Well thanks for the opportunity to post here.
its registration time and my 91 ranger 4.0 failed the evap test.
says it was gas cap , emission control evap system ? also
Had started smelling gas last couple of fillups , so after we failed the tank
pressure test , G cap ... looked under the bed at the tank , plastic covr
under the tank for protection i guess ? . there was GAS sitting in the
plastic covr !!!! Now thats why bad gas smell, bad mileage ,failed smog.
So anyone taken the filler hose off there tank without dropping the tank
before??>?

i replaced the filler neck on my 95 (ford charged me somewhere near $400 for the lil fucker though) i loosened the tank that way i could move it around but i didnt have to drop it.

I believe there is a safety recall on some '91s for the evap line breaking off the fuel tank.

But you really should ask the tester whether it was the cap or something else. There is no automatic test on a '91. The fuel cap is tested manually.
