Im looking for anyone with knowledge of california smog laws, i know the engine has to be newer then the original engine but i was wondering what parts have to be newer and how they will even know, are they really going to get a flashlight and go searchign for casting numbers and then go cross reference them? i have a 1980 302 and a 85 ranger, now i understand that will not be legal but what would happen if i put smog legal heads, intake and all that stuff on the block will it still fail just because the actual block it 1980?

*the motor has to be the "same" year or newer with all the smog stuff that came on THAT year of motor.

some ref's might, some refs might not look at the casting numbers.

I know of some people that have done like you are asking.

go over to desertrides.com and look up chasetruck754 he has jumped threw all the smog stuff on a motor swap before.I rember he got failed once for not have a factory but a aftermarket PCV vavle or something stupid like that.

so he would proably be your best person to talk to.
