Some say it's a victory in affordability and common sense...

Others say it's a complete disaster... and we'll likely die

The current Administration axed the former Administrations CAFE standards. As well as the EV mandates that were necessary to conform to those standards.

I like the idea... not that I would consider buying a brand new gas guzzler. But if this could make buying a new truck cheaper... it's a good thing and only makes me more likely to buy one.

There were also references made to some of the teeny tiny vehicles sold in many other parts of the world perhaps having some influence on new offerings at a great price point.

There is much buzz... Google for many articles.

If anything manufacturers aren't going to go backwards, they'll likely just quit doing the auto stop garbage and maybe work on reliability instead of hunting for that 0.00001 mpg increase while increasing weight by 10% for "safety"...

Prices won't come down. Long term you will pay more in fuel costs. If your presidential tariffs went away the prices would probably come down due to lower material cost.

They said that it adds up to 109 billion dollars in savings for consumers.

Tariffs are a different story. Nobody minded Tariffs when the US was paying them... kinda funny the world's hair is on fire when they have to pay.

Ummm... Its not me or any other country paying the tariffs. Its your American companies that pay the tariffs, and that means the costs are passed onto you, the american people. The money made from tariffs go to the US government. So its a tax in disguise.

If my country ( Canada ), enacts tariffs in response or retaliation, it means that me ( Canadian people ) pay the tariffs in higher costs passed on by the Canadian companies importing into Canada.

Unfourtantly we'll never see carbed big blocks again.

But its a step in the correct direction

They would be stupid if they did, it wouldn't take much for a future administration to flip the switch back the other way.

The tariffs the US is imposing is in response to the high tariffs on US goods going into other countries. Canada is one of the countries that has smacked pretty high tariffs on US goods. The President isn't trying to eliminate tariffs other countries charge, he is trying to level the playing field. For years, the US would allow goods to come in the US for basically free, while our products were getting slammed.

You are correct about companies and the customer paying for them. There is no arguing about that. Lets face it we are getting taxed to death in one form or another since companies aren't going to just eat the cost themselves.

Taxes on the raw materials companies provide. Taxes on the parts to make the product. Taxes on the product. Taxes on the seller of the product. And so on. How much of the cost of product is really jist the product? I wouldn't be surprised if it was around 50%. The rest is all taxes.

I like the idea. I think we have gotten to the point where it isn't possible to squeeze much more out of a vehicle with the technology we have.

Thus, why we have things like start/stop to try and eek out every little bit of mpg they can get, just to make the government happy. It hurts the consumer in the long term but the government doesn't care about that.

I'm pleased with the CAFE change. We've been subsidizing EV's that aren't worth buying with tax dollars, then the new EV owners find out that their heavy vehicle gets lousy tire life and will need an expensive battery in 8-9 years if nothing else goes wrong. We're not supposed to mention the hazard they pose to first responders at accidents.
My 25 Escape has a 250hp 2.0 Ecoboost and AWD, it averaged 30 mpg until the weather cooled off and we started warming it up before driving. I'll worry that 30 mpg isn't enough when the concern about carbon emissions causes the grounding of private jets and yachts.
