has anyone have much info for swapping a cab. i have a 91 auto ext cab i want to put on my 92 std ext cab both have 4L's.the body on the 92 is pretty beat and the 91 is mint any tricks or not to do's i should know about?
thanks

Well...don't use a torch to cut the body mounts unless you have a new set ready to go...torches and rubber mounts don't get along...

The hole in the floor should accommodate a manual shifters unless you have a column shifter...on both...just remove the shifter before dropping the body on as this requires less navigation and a slight swing sometimes...

Otherwise...it may be easier to remove the inner and outer fenders before putting the body on...the first and second gen fenders come off relatively easy...not like the 3rd gens that have way more bolts and nuts in hard to get at places...

When I did mine I also removed the doors, hood and seats and jump seats so I would have less weight to deal with...especially since I lifted mine with a fork lift and looped a belt through the door openings...which just happened to be a perfect balance point...I was concerned about warping the roof and cracking the windshield but it didn't happen...

EDIT: Ah, just remembered the second gen fenders and front clip are a bit more difficult to remove than the first gens so you might forgo that removal...unless there is a problem it should otherwise drop right on with the fenders and inner fenders intact...

if you plan to keep the standard trans, you'll also need to swap the clutch pedal over to the 91 cab, aswell as swap the trans tunnel shifter plate or just cut the trans tunnel plate for the shifter, IIRC it helps to pull the grill to get at the rad core support bolts, although its been a long time since I've worked on a second gen

Thanks, I will be removing everything as I want to only swap the cab portion. But seams to be a bit of work. Is the dash and wiring a bit of a gong show or

You may not have to remove the wiring if they are the same engine with the same options...

The 2nd gen dash is pretty easy to remove though if needed...just be a bit careful with those bezels around the radio and instrument cluster...you might also check for something that may be needed...the side window vents for defrost.

I was going to swap a 2nd gen dash into my 1st gen (along with the 3.0 et al) but found that the vents were dummies and didn't actually have a hose to direct air flow...may not be an issue where you are but in Canada they are necessary...and I was looking forward to having that even if I had to leave my beloved 1st gen dash behind...

i noticed that there is a harness in the firewall on the drivers side almost like a plug and play. hopeing to keep all my interior and everything else, i dont see the dash and body being a problem its the extra pedals/shifters, and wiring needed.
