I have a 98 ext cab 4x4....I want to clean and rust protect the frame....I have removed the bed and done the back, but how hard is it to completely remove the cab? What is involved and has to be disconnected? I'd like to take it all off in one piece if possible....that would be a good time to replace the rad support (it's looking kind of rotten on the bottom). Thanks in advance for any help.

this is kinda dependant on you and what you have axcess to... my buddies and i 4 of us in total tried to lift a single cab with the fenders, hood, dash, and doors still on it and it was a bit to heavy to lift over the motor... we could lift it like 6 inches but not up and off, then i took the doors dash and wiring out and we could get it over... if you have a lift it will be a bit easier.

but basically what it entails is

take apart your interior, remove your wiring and dash if you choose to, your doors, then un hook everything from the engin compartment including unbolting the break master cylinder from the vacume booster (that way you dont have to bleed the system again) same with your clutch, or a/t linkage, drain the cooling system and disconnect the hoses, lace your spedo cable out and your e-brake cable, if you have a 5 speed either unscrew your shifter or unbolt it from the top of the trans, also idk if it is there on the extended cab but on the single cab there is a braided steel rope that ties the back of the cab to a cross member(if its there it unbolts from the top and slides out.

it is pretty aparent when you get into it what needs to be unhooked. you should be able to figure it out. just be dilligant and take alot of pictures to remember what goes where!

o one last thing, you can dis connect the a/c compressor if you have it and kinda move it out of the way but be very careful if you are going to lift the cab off with your buddies that the fan doest make its way into the rad. if you didnt remove it, or the condensor.

if you do decide to disconnect the a/c make sure to put a plactic bag over the ends and seal it will with ducttape! the moisture in the air can reuin the system.

if you have any questions pm me and i can help you out im doing a body swap how and have done this twice.

good luck
