what do the god of ranger tech think of putting a 84 c5 from a bii behind a 87 2.9 pro con and if any thing would be needed think you for your time

If its a replacement for an A4LD, probably a great upgrade.

If its a replacement for a manual, go get an M5. Less work.

The C5 is a respectable transmission and as far as autos go, very desireable in the RBV. Low % of them were actually made with the C5.

K. I have done this in my 88 and in my 94 X. Both were stick shifts so I did not have any computer issues. I have read that if you had a A4LD and go to the non computer C-5 it will through a code. I did not like it for highway travel. I used a rebuilt c-5 to c-4 specs and the only new converter that is available does not lock up. With out the overdrive and lock up converter it was turning a lot of rpms on the highway and I had trouble with heat in the engine and tranny. Over the years I have seen more than one thread about folks wanting to make the old 70's Mustang II and Capri v-8 converter work. So I guess I am not alone in feeling that the current conver is lacking. Just depends on what you use it for. I need to drive mine a 1000 miles to Utah and Colorado to wheel and drive it back. If yours is a trailer queen then the problems I had with heat and mpg will not make any difference. I ran a doubler to try to keep the highway rpms and mpg liveable. It worked great off road in both vehicles.

The shifter in the stock truck is on a smaller floor cover plate. You can either do away with it and use an aftermarket shifter or you need everything from the doner truck. Shifter, rods and the C bracket the the bell crank uses. The shifter can be removed from the smaller plate and installed on a larger one or you can trim the larger plate you have and mount the smaller one on top of it. The tranny dip stick in stock form uses a C bracket on the valve cover. And you will need it to use the stock dipstick tube. Folks who use the C-5/4 for a v-8 have used the Locar fexable aftermarket tube. But it is samll an difficult to fill the tranny with.

I took the C-5 back out of my 94 X and have a 5 speed in it now. The C-5 is back in my 88 Bronco II and will be used for off rooad only. We are going to try an aftermarlet kick down cable this time. Before we just had the kick down adjusted and stay straped forward. My tranny rebuilder said this was needed for proper preasure.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
