OK heres the thing guys my set up is a 1986 5.0 efi i put a c4 behind it with a AOD flex plate so i started it up and wouldnt go into drive or rev... thought it was the pump so i pulled it and come to find out they guy sold it to me with out the shaft for the torque convert... not sure if i can get a new one probably not. any ways i just went and got another c4 this one is from a 1969 mustang so shaft out put is the same but tourqe converter is a diffrent size ...wont fit with AOD flex plate so should i get a diffrent converter or find a flex plate does the flex plate need to be 164 or 154..and 28oz or 50oz?? need to get this back togehter by tmr

You can probably just size up the torque converter I will get you the link for Makco.

Oops nevermind I scrolled a little further and saw a ton of 26 spline converters you can use those part numbers at any transmission shop that sells parts.

you have a 24 or 26 spline??

off road truck? drag race?

dont think i would use a c anything behind efi, just use an aod.

your AOD flex plate will be 164 tooth your mustang TC will be for the smaller 157 tooth flexplate. With the EFI engine you have to use a 50oz imbalance flexplate. So depending on your bell housing, if the AOD flex plate fit and didn't rub then get use your original TC. Sounds like you may have to switch bell housings if the mustang bell housing is smaller. I just went through all of this myself in my Bronco II. Email me and we can call each other I will be glad to help you out.

OK the trans i originaly had is a late 70's mid 80s its 26/24 new trans is 1969 and is 24/24

the reason im useing a c4 is the 1983 ranger comes stock with a c5 so there i wouldnt have to get a custom drive shaft also im using a manual ecu and the c4 will work best for my application...

I ended up going on ebay and someone was selling a late 70's 26 spline shaft for the torque converter going to give that a try maybe sell the 1969...c4 if the other one is working. thanks for the help guys

I thought the 83 came stock with the C-3 auto with the 7.5 open differential? as long as the length is good you may need a different U-joint on the tranny side?

nope came with a c5 and everything fits right up already had it bolted up...if you go to the tech articals and look up the 1983 to 1997 302 swap scroll down to transmission youll see

Thats just my silly brain I remember now when I was trying to ID my tranny some 8 years ago it had the C-4 also the first time I changed the oil. Discovered mine is the C-3 :-)
