I have a Lokar dipstick in the truck now, it is hard to read and tedious to fill. I ordered a new chrome Ford Racing dipstick and tube, but the dipstick sticks out the end much more than the Lokar.

Does anyone have a factory one laying around they could measure to let me know which one is right?

Truck has a C5, similar to a case fill C4, both dipsticks are supposed to be for a C4.

I had a trans guy tell me that on a C-4/5:
Start you truck, pull out the vacuum modulator and fill untill fluid comes out of the hole where the VM was. Reinstall VM and mark dipstick as full COLD...
I used this method when i swapped out a4ld to a c5 years ago. Still running around town today.

This guy built transmissions back in the old days, he was a true mechanic. So i trust him.

I have a 2wd case-fill c-4 (as determined by the casting number on the valve-body) of unknown exact origin in my garage. It was taken from a 65 Mustang but has junk yard markings on the case that read "86 6 cylinder" on the top of the case.

The dipstick (has to Ford logo stamped in it) measures 20 7/8" from the bottom of the cap to the end of the stick.

Sound plausable, I might give it a whirl. :icon_thumby:

How long is the tube for comparision?

Uh, I dunno. I'll have to go look. It's dark now, so I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow to look.

I should add this,,,,,,that your trans should allready have enough fluid in it to function before you use this method.
Make sence?
