C3 going replace it with what?? Help

1983 Ranger 2wd 2.8 V6 C-3 with no forward drive (see my other post for all the details). Looks like I'm going to get it rebuilt ($500-$2500)

OR replace it with what automatic?

I want to bolt in with the least amount of retrofit or make it work possible.

Can a c-3 that has been part of a 4x4 set up be used?
What change tail sections or something?
