Just returned from the dealership and after a day of diagnosing I was told I needed the T case R & R. Apparently, they just don't open these things up. After the sticker shock ($2,000) I have decided to shop for a good indy mechanic. I am curious if any other members have had similar problems with this particular model T case. BTW, my vehicle only has 66,000 miles. What I am experiencing is an occasional clunk noise after the the unit is engaged, sometimes at a distance of 1 mile or greater distance from the time I turn the knob. Will continue operation do greater damage to the T case? Thanks for your insights.

the t-cases used in these trucks are very reliable units...but as with anything mechanical, they do occasionally fail.

if i were in your position, i would not buy a new case. a case from a junkyard can be had for a fraction of the cost and can be considered equally reliable.

it sounds like your t-case chain is probaby stretched/slipping and it WILL damage the case further if you continue to run it (only in 4wd).
