I have an `03 Ranger that has an annoying buzzing sound at around 2,100 rpms. I'm pretty sure it's some thing vibrating in the passenger compartment but I just can't nail it down. I've taken the dash apart, the drivers door and the console but it's still there! Has anyone esle had this and if so what did you do to fix it?

get a buddy/sibling/gf/etc to ride along with you, get the noise going, then have them to touch stuff until the sound stops. if you find out its a panel, go get some 3M sound deadening tape and put it on the inside of the panel.

I had one of these once, guy brought in his year old mustang complaining about a "tinny sound from doors when radio was on" I taped both his door panels, driver's side noise went away, passenger side stayed. Saw his wife's sun glasses in the door pocket, took them out, noise stopped. Told the adviser that the glasses were making noise and needed to be kept in the center console where I had put them. Adviser forgets to tell the guy, he comes, picks up the car, sees the glasses and says "WTF that's not where they belong" puts em back, turns the car on and comes right back in, all pissed off, to complain that the sound is still there. I go out with him, hear it, pull the glasses out of the door, and he just cracks up laughing.

Moral of the story: Check for sunglasses.

Just short shift and avoid 2,100 rpms!:icon_twisted:

+1 for taking a pasenger to locate the noise.
I get a rattle in my gen 1 that sometimes makes me crazy. If I roll the windows up tight it quits. Could be something loose in the door.

My 87 does the same thing. I don't know about yours, because it looks like its in somewhat better shape, but I know that my noise is the windows rattling because my rubber/foam sealing strips are all rotted out around the edges and don't hold the glass tight unless its rolled up the whole way. Might be your problem too. Roll it down half way and see if you can rattle the glass with your hands.

I found it. It's the plastic defroster panel that snaps into the top of the dash. Now just to fiqure out how to stop the buzz...
