I'd say you made the right choice on the mix of tools you ordered. I've been in aircraft maintenance for over 20 years and all we use is Snap-On due to the industrial warranty. I can tell you this though; I have broken maybe 4 snap-On tools over that time usually because I was not using it "correctly". However, for my own tools I mainly have Craftsman. I have broken many more of those but like has been said before here I have never had an issue getting one replaced. Active military gets to buy Snap-On at the government rate which is a good discount, not as good as the student one you’re getting. Consequently I have quite a few Snap-On tools. The best I have from them and use a lot on my BIIs are the wobble extensions and the swivel sockets. I do have up to 1" drive tools but honestly I use them to drive bearings and seals in way more than taking off anything that big.

Most of my best techs over the years used all 3/8's. They just added leverage when needed since the tools were warrantied.
