my first truck was a s10 going to ford ranger now and was wondering what was the difference between the level II and regular fx4 ranger?

Congrats also! I'm on my sixth one (plus the BII), have two right now, one for Winter and Summer. Loved them all. Easy to work on and this site can help with any problem or question you might have.

ya im the first ford man now out off everyone in my family

I was a chevy guy myself. First car was a 57 chevy bel air, then I owned two S10's. Long story short, once you go blue oval and see the light you'll never go back! Sorry I cant help ya on the FX4 issue though. :)

Welcome to the forum. You will love your 4x4 ranger. The Level II FX4 has better shocks and better differentials. They might also come with 3 skid plates (where as my FX4 only as 2). They also have a choice of several different 15" alcoa rims, as where the plain FX4 only has ford 16" rims. The level II FX4's with a 5-speed manual transmission also have manual transfer cases (has a lever in the floor to shift the truck into 4x4), as where the plain FX4's only have electronic shift transfer cases (have a switch on the dash). If I am wrong, please someone correct me.

your right DANGER, but the manual t-case only came in 2002 fx4 and the 2003 fx4 level II. 2002 didnt have a level II.

The Level II has a 31-spline Torsen rear diff, Bilstein shocks, 3 skid plates and comes standard with 15" Alcoa rims with 31x10.50 BFGoodrich tires. The FX4 has 28-spline limited slip diff, regular shocks, 2 skid plates and comes standard with 16" rims and has the 15" Alcoas and BFG's optional.

Level II also comes standard with 4-door extended cab, whereas with regular FX4 you can get 2 dr OR 4 dr extended cab.

thanks for the help i just seen both, and was wondering what the differences were.

Level II has Bucket seats, floor mats, front and rear tow hooks and all power options as well! It has a factory lift as well but i think the FX4 off road does too..

I'm not sure about the lift, but my '07 FX4 does have all those other things. I've never compared the height of any of the Rangers to tell if my FX4 is lifted or not.

I don't know all the details, but I can tell you this: A ford ranger Fx4 level 2 is my dream vehicle!! Enjoy it!!

What is the difference between a 31-spline torsen rear differential vs. a 28-spline limited slip differential.

I'm new, still learning.
Thanks

The 31 spline is stronger, the Torsen L/S is gear driven, the ford L/S has clutch packs and will wear out. Therefore the Torsen is better.
Correct me if I am wrong
