Since I'm going to have to pull the engine to do the swap I'd rather not have to do it again a few years down the line. Is there any way that I can paint this to keep it from rusting out?

I was thinking of doing maybe some spray on bed liner, but I might stick with just some rustolium if you think that would work. I dunno.

when i did the pan on my boat i covered it in por-15. but a buddy of mine covered his with rubberized undercoating and it has stayed good for 3 years now

Be careful on "cheap" when it comes to oil pans. I had an engine that had a chrome oil pan and I couldn't keep it leaking from the drain to save my life. Now I only use only real OEM pans, no exceptions. :)

what you can do is sand the oil pan really good and dont forget to clean it then get some spray primer and and do about 2 coats and then get you some engine paint and put about 3 or 4 coats of that on it and you will be good to go or if you dont have to worry about rust that much just sand it and put about 3 or 4 coats of engine paint on it

I had to make some parts out of steel for my boat trailer (didn't have enough coin for aluminum). What I did was sand the steel down nice and shiny, getting rid of all the rust. Cleaned it up and sprayed it with 2 coats of grey primer. I let that cure for a day and then sprayed on 4 coats of truck bedliner (duplicolor I believe) that you can get in a rattle can at advance auto parts. Parts have held up for 2 years so far after numerous dunking in salt water, no rust spots yet!
