This is my first post so I thought I'd dive right in:D

I just bought an '02 Ranger Edge. I noticed after a stop when a move forward again I feel a bump almost like it's taking off from a very small patch of ice. I'm thinking the rear end is actually shifting one way when I brake and then the other when I accelerate. There seems to be about 2" of lift between the axel and leafs. Is there something that gets loose that I could tighten up?

regards

The 2 inch lift is stock to match the height of the Torsion bar front suspension that is on there. The clunk is most likely the driveshaft clunk that seems to be prevalent in Fords.

Search using "slip yoke". It's the front slip joint on the rear drive shaft.

I'm SURE that's what you are feeling.

You can ignore it for years (like me on my 2000) or use the new grease every year or so (messy job).

Welcome to The Ranger Station!

mine did this and it was the universal joints grab the drive shaft and try to move it up, down and side to side if it has play those are bad

Yep, my local mechanic said that was the likely culprit. So I drop the DS, grease up the splines and try not to lose too much ATF? That's what I envisioned, anyway.

thanks
