Bump Stops

So I lifted my truck (94 b4000) with a 6" BDS susp lift... I wish I had done my research before installing it and discovering the wonderful "drop plate" .. whatever we all make mistakes.... anyways I tried to extend the bumpstops and i guess 14 year old nuts were trying to be stubborn so i just put that idea aside for a little while.. Eventually with enough cursing and hammering i got them off... obviously during the process i destroyed my stock bumpstops, the kit came with a two 4" drop brackets to relocate them... I know that the drop plate likes to get friendly with the pumpkin.. is there anyway that longer bumpstops can prevent this, im not a super serious hardcore wheeler :icon_hornsup: .. lol.. so im not to concerned with a lack of articulation... any idea on what length bumpstops to get to put on my 4" drop brackets to save my diff???
 
What I would do is remove the coilspring on that side, and then jack the suspension up until the diff is about 1" away from hitting that bracket. Then measure the distance for your bumpstop extension.
 
hmmm.. that would work.. i wonder if theres an easier way though.. haha.. or even if anyone has some measurments for me to go by?
 
since the coil nuts have been off once, this time will be alot easier. just get a 1 1/8 deep, 6 point socket and a good size extension and your selection of drive tool on the end of it and take those suckers right off.
 
haha you guys are determined for me to pull those off... well i was planning on throwing some spacers under the springs anyways... i guess i'll do that then.. has anyone else ran into this problem before... will it even work?
 
If u wanna try something other than taking out the coil, get some oil changeing ramps. Put one under the driver front and pass rear tire, and drive up them. It will flex a stock suspension pretty good, it will at least get u in the ball park with the lift.
 
yeah thats actually a good idea.... flex the susp, and get someone to see how close it comes to hitting... thats probably what i'll do...

Yeah, If you just want to stick something in there to stop the suspension from moving up too far, anything that'll put the bumpstop maybe 2" above the axle would probably be safe, although if you want to have the most travel out of what's available there, then cycling the suspension with the coil out is really the only way you're gonna find the exact measurement you need.

(probably should get a bigger drop pitman arm (or a linkage swap) on there too, your steering looks like it has some angle on it)
 
Yeah thats what i figure.. 2" of travel shouldnt hit the diff, and i'll cycle it to make sure...

Yeah i have a drop pitman arm, the steering angle is good... it just appears to be worse, the susp is partially hanging in the pic
