i was looking at my tires today, and noticed that one of them had a bulge in the sidewall, and a pretty bad one too, i looked closer and felt around, and it had two, then i checked the rest, all 4 of my tires have bulges in the sidewall. one has one, the other three are 2-3 per tire. they have 36,000 km on them (so about 22,000 miles) they are the goodyear wrangler SRA. i went to the dealership (i drive an 08, so hoping to find out warranty info) and they tell me thats normal, its just where the tire is joined together. it doesn't seem very good to me though. and im pretty sure a tire isn't joined in three places. can anyone help me with why this happened, or if it is normal?

i had this happen on the tires on my bII and they never lost air because of it though. sometimes the sidewalls get dents from offroading and stuff. i would just keep an eye on em over time for cracking (just noticed some cracking on mine but the tires were already almost bald from many many miles of driving). most likely they will last just as long as youve got tread on the tires.

I hate goodyear tires. I don't know why so many people like them, I've had nothing but trouble with them. You probably hit a few pot holes with yours and seperated the layers a little bit allowing an air bubble to form. I've had tires do this, not sure how safe it is to drive on them. I would think it has to be a weak spot though.

im thinking its a weak spot too, i don't really want to try my luck to find out though. but yeah, goodyear=garbage. no wonder 90% of the SUVs and Trucks come with them stock, cheap, and crap.

round or egg shaped buldges in the sidewalls are bad. below are a few examples of bad tires:

a dip or bump that runs the width of the sidewall, perpendicular to the rim, is usually the seam of the sidewall chords, as your dealer informed you, and its normal. its not unusual for there to be 2 or more seams depending on the manufacturer. google has failed to reveal to me a picture of a normal chord seam, but here is a picture with arrows that indicate the direction a normal seam runs:

if theres no warrenty tell em you want them replaced anyway and maybe they can prorate you for the amount of tread thats left

Goodyears get bad raps cause people don't know how to care for tires or understand tires and just to clarify

this one

this is NOT a defect in the tire......you can see the groove in the sidewall all the way around it. that is caused from driving on the tire with to low of air pressure. The heat from the sidewall flexing from the low air pressure caused it to heat up and fall apart. And by doing so it allowed air into the sidewall of the tires from the inside.

All tires have these "dents" in them......I mounted a set of BFG Mt's today that had atleast two per side on all 4 tires. Just some are more noticably then others.

mine are more like picture #2 and 4, bubbeled a bit, not nearly as bad as the first one, thank god, thats brutal. theres dents too, but thats not the part im creeped about, its the bubbles.

Never mind going to a dealership for tire related issues... you won't get anywhere. Best go to a Goodyear shop and let them look after it. I don't know the laws in the states, but here in Canada, the tire manufacturer is responsible for tire warranty. It's kind of like going to see a brain surgeon for a problem with your foot.

OOPS! I just noticed, your in Canada. Go see a Goodyear tire shop. If the tire issues are what your saying they are, then they will look after you.

EDIT: on a side note, the only good Goodyear tire I have owned is a bald one... because that means it's time to get new NON Good year tires.

the bulges are what's called an impact separation(sp?). It is quite dangerous to drive with them, and could cause you to have a blow out, which could be catastrophic for your truck... i would advise getting some new tires...

Pic 4 is an impact break in the tire...generally caused by hitting a curb or something similar in nature..........It should get replaced.

i found out there is a goodyear place near me so im gonig to go check it out, if i do need new tires, looks like im making a trip out the good ole usa for some shopping. General grabber AT2s....33x12.5....$270 here, $114 there.
