i recently purchesed my first ranger. 94,2.3 manual. runs great no problemes at all, ,, until my oil drain plug magicly backed it self off while i was going down the free way. oil presser fell off and motor shut down, i thought it was done, cooked.. i call my pops up for a tow and he brings a block of wood a hammer and 3 qt of oil. told me he had this happin on his old mustang. we pop this wood in the drain plug hole, put the oil in and bam purred like a kitten, i babyed it back to the house did an oil change, runs like new.

needless to say im pleased with my purches of the truck.

GREMLINS......

they were everywhere in the Viet Nam War & W.W.II !

glad it shut down in time...oughta be good for another 200,000 !

Welcome! And yes the 2.3L is one tough little engine. Had a friend with a Mustang with the same. His oil light stayed on all the time. Found out he was running 3 quarts low on oil for over 1,500 miles. Nary a tick or knock.

ive had mine go 2 quarts low without knowing, gremlins were loosening my valve cover....

that doesnt surprise me, probably didnt do much damage though, happens more often then you think with motors, I ran a pressure washer for 20 minutes without oil and finally realized it was out when it siezed up. Added some oil and a few rough pulls and she started and ran great

You mean the drain plug was never fully tightened after the oil change? I never heard of one just coming loose by itself, unless someone loosened it to caues you some grief. Man...that bites!!!

Glad it's back up and ticking!

Yeah, no doubt.

yes i assumed it was not tightend properly. im just amazed it fired right up like nothing happend when i got the new plug.

Man, my stomach would have been tied in a knot waiting to see if it started to knock, knock, knock when it fired up, Bro. Like the Alkalizer commercial...'Oh, what a relief it is'!!!

alka-seltzer

No, lol. I said it right.......Alkalizer....a source of organic sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium to settle your nerves in pill or powder form. I have a chemesty degree. After all I was a Navy EOD diver for many years and know how to blow up things...lol

LOL, that is old!!! But like I said...Alkalizer.....for that healthy edge...lol

good to hear about the engine...mine has ran low on oil quite a bit due to valve cover and other issues...I put some Lucas oil stabilizer in mine every oil change (the oil that doesn't get blasted out needs to be changed too) and it helps keep things running even with low oil...

As for the Alkaseltzer...someone told me years ago that if a seagull eats one they blow up...a seal taught me that trick too...but the seal ate the seagull just after the seagull ate the Alkaseltzer and just before the seagull blew up...

and there was a whale in the bay at the time that was just about to eat the seal but just before the seal and the seagull blew up the whale farted from the gas he got from eating a bean salad and the fart propelled the whale faster than it expected and it over shot the seal as it was blowing up, causing the whale to be propelled even faster and the whale clamped its mouth on a bouy instead and the bouy was ghey and thought the whale was a gurl and screamed...

Ah, nothing like too much coffee before bed time stories...
