Built Another PC....

need to rebuild by pc its an 02 mother board hp but i rebuilt uped all the innereds but the mb in 05 and its 09 so in the world of pcs im about 100 years behind >.< lol nice build hd? 1tb ea?

I need to rebuild my computer, it was a 2002 HP brand personal computer. I rebuilt my 2002 HP brand personal computer back in the year 2005 will a new Personal Computer case and all most all the internals parts on my computer, all but the motherboard and it is now the year 2009 is i have to upgrade my 2002 HP brand personal computer again. as it is outdated by today's computer standard's . *laughing at my 2002 HP based personal computers monitor* well executed and respectable personal computer build. and may i further ask you my good sir what are the hard drive sizes in this, the personal computer you have built and cared to share with up on this particular forum posting, Are the hard drives ONE terabyte each?

better?

No, I have 2x 500GB hard drives in this setup. One has the operating system and all the programs while the other stores my pictures, music, etc.

cool im running the oem i think its 350GB on my PC with a 1tb slave for videos and editing and such btw i hope you understand what i did in that post maybe got a chuckle

opps said 350mb meant GB

sweet computer. and running 70*F i was wonder how hot is too hot? my lap top is always running about 120*F on both processors and the highest i've seen on here it got up to 175*F

The problem with laptops is they have no air flow.

175* is too hot. You might want to look into a cooling stand.

You could of just gotten a i7 920 for 270. I gotta say its a beast of a processor and the amount this cpu can overclock is amazing. I got mine stable at 4.2ghz and it could easily get 4.5 with a little time. I just left mine at 4.2 for 24/7 use. Either way good build. Nothing like putting together a new computer.

yeah it only got that hot once i was dumb and was playing music when i was going to bed and threw a shirt on top to cover all the blue lights. i do have a cooling stand for at home and it works good but at my dorm i have no where to use the cooling stand and its usally running 130 then i try to have it set offset on my leg so the fan is open. oh and how do you do that overclocking thing or do you not sugest i try since im not great with computers im decent i know more then most but im not any where near an expert with them

Nice computer. i'm looking at buying a computer from a friend that's running the same video card but in dual sli. i hear great things about the video card and the ram you're running. sounds like an awesome system. wish mine was that nice. lol

*Update* Got my Phenom II X4 940BE to 4Ghz on air stable :) i just needed a case that gets better airflow

75c is a little hot for a phenom II.... Also, you could unlock the other two cores of that cpu, and have a quad core (which would be better than a 2 core 3.5ghz machine on paper). While it'd show no improvements in apps such as winzip/winrar ect, it would excel on apps that use multi-core processors.

I recently built an AMD phenom II x3 720 (with fourth core unlocked) it became a X4 920. 4gb of 1600mhz ram, and dual 4870's (two seperate cards.) You'd have far less luck unlocking a 720, vs unlocking your 550. I think with the UD3P mobo, and a bios upgrade, you should be able to unlock the other two cores stable with the ACC function.... It's a luck of the draw however, I've unlocked many, many x2 550's. They say 75-85% unlock, vs about 25% of the tri-cores depending on the batch they came from.

My 720 unlocked and was stable (luck of draw). Ran prime95 for 8 hours, and OCCT for 2hrs. The system is noticably faster.. My temps never make it out of the 49c range under full load (air cooled). Just letting you know mjonesjr if you weren't aware of the unlock function.

My case is lacking, but will work for now.

I have since put 3 more fans in it and got the temp down to around 50*C.

How do you unlock the other 2 cores? I had no idea it was possible.

According to AMD Overdrive, my CPU is running at 27*C

First off it's false to say you can use OVERDRIVE to turn ACC on (while it has the features listed as such, I'd never use overdrive to do so).. You need to go into the bios, and set acc to auto (or ALL cores). Also the advancing percentages to 0 for all cores. If you are not stable, you can set the cores to -2% etc. Also, i'd remove any OC before I set the two other cores on. Once you get stable with the other two cores running your CPU will be noticably warmer. Using overdrive to toggle acc on = deadly response. Most likely you won't get a stable run doing it that way. You need to have the correct bios. OCing to 4ghz vs a stable 4 core 3.1ghz cpu is just silly, the 4 core 3.1ghz machine will blow it out of the water. I was going to get a X2 550 and unleash the two cores, however the lowest cpu my mobo supported was the X3.
