2.3L ('83-'97) Building a 2.3

I'm attempting to build a turbo 2.3l. I have a 1996 block with a dual spark head and im wondering how I could swap it into my 1990? I'd be putting it behind my A4LD thats currently behind a 2.9l.

Would it be smart to go Carb and Distributor or attempt to keep the coil pack setup ford had?

Why would you the motor behind the transmission?


I don't think that (2.3) block will bolt to your transmission.

I think the A4LD take a bellhousing unlike the M5OD so if you can find a bellhousing for a 2.3L that would work...

How much of the '96 engine do you have? do you have wire harness and everything? How many turbo related parts do you have so far or are you just in the planning stage?

A '96 isn't a bad engine to start with but it cannot accept a distributor and it's crank sensor is specific to a '96 or newer computer. With those parts and assuming you don't have a LA2 or LA3 ECM laying around and trying to make your 2.9L harness fit or something you would probably be best off going megasquirt or similar or find someone familiar with the OBD II 2.3L's that might have a tune for one...

I currently only have a machined block. I'm in the planning stages at the moment, I just found a 2.3 A4LD bellhousing that an old trans shop had on marketplace.
