I'm trying to get one of my friends to buy a Tremec T-5 I've got that I originally intended to put in my 1979 Triumph TR7 with a buick v6 plant. I was gonna buy a conversion kit for it, but after 8 years of owning and doing nothing with it I think its time to let it go. My buddy is planning on putting a GM v8 in a RX7, and the trans came off a v8 camaro. Then I've got to figure out what to do with the 231 CID buick v6, so I'm wondering what it might take to put that engine in my 03 Ranger 2.3l, 5spd, 2wd?

I have the bellhousing that matches the engine, would that match up to the stock ranger trans?

Would it be easier to keep the trans if I want to put the buick in my truck?

To be honest I'd rather put a diesel in my truck, heck I'd put a diesel in the TR7 if I had the money and know how.

Thanks for your help.

I highly doubt a Ford 4cyl transmission will bolt to a GM V6...

Although the thought does intrigue me. What gen is the 3.8? I know the Series II put out about 220HP, but I think the plastic intakes had issues, whereas my friend's 1992 LeSabre has 284K miles on its Series I 3.8.

You would need all the Buick electrics, computer and one very expensive custom made trans adaptor made to run that motor. Look elswere, or maybe buy another truck.

Maybe its an old carbed 3.8, he never said what it was out of.... although if it IS carbed, I dont see the advantage over a simpler 3.0 or 4.0 swap, or even ford 3.8 swap....

Even the carbed ones have electronics to deal with. My 83 El Camino has a carbed 231 (yes, it's the Buick engine, believe it or not!) and the have that sometimes problematic 'feedback' carb that does connect to a control unit.

I have no intention of getting rid if my truck, I'm just brainstorming Stray. It would seem with the way things are going my friend isn't going to buy my trans. Maybe a better job where I can save money to fix the TR7 is in order. I'd still rather put a diesel in my truck.

The buick v6 came out of a 1980 Chevy Monza, its carbed and I don't have the electronics because the conversion kit I intended to buy has a wiring harness.

I didn't think I'd be able to put it in my truck without an adapter, or changing to a top load t-5. As cool as it would be I don't think I wanna spend that much on it.

Thanks guys
