I have a 2000 xlt supercab. It has new pads and shoes, but I am going to be towing a trailer for work soon. Really screws up my plans for the truck.
What can I do to upgrade the braking power of the truck without spending lots of money? I am already doing an explorer rear axle for disk brakes very soon, so any upgrades for explorer rear or the stock front brakes? Really don't want to spend lots of money because it is all out of my pocket and not for something I wanted to do (i.e. tow a work trailer) but if I crash it's all on me.
Will swapping in newer components with bigger rotors be my best bet, or is there something else? Hope this is the right spot for this.

Im thinking I seen something about cobra calibers but now I cant remember if that wa on the ranger or on the Sho. I hope someone will be able to help us out with this.

It's not my trailer, and I'll be damned if I am going to spend my money on the company trailer. Already suggested them to manager. Don't want to spend the $$$ on cobra brakes I want the cash in other areas, though it would be nice to have something with the massive amounts of brake power that gives. Are there any years of stock components or replacements that are better than others. First time I'm going to be using the ranger in this way, always used a full size, and I don't want it to end up badly. I know how to tow, but I want better brakes becuase it will be 100% stop and go in town and from 20-60 miles round trip 5-6 days a week for as long as I can handle it.
Would it be better to not try to mess with the trucks brakes?

96 Aerostar drums are thicker and finned. Other wise push for them t-brakes.
