I have a 86 Bronco II it keeps sputtering & dieing. I drove it yesterday & it was surging. last night it ran fine. any ideas.

fuel filter?
cracked distributor cap?
fuel pressure?
that one module thingy on the distributor that the 2.9's have issues with?
IAC?
dirty throttle body?
dirty/bad gas?

without some looking/searching on the B2 itself, there are A LOT of things it could be. I'd start with fuel filter.

Thanks, Im cleaning throttle body now. dist cap is new. Where is the mass air sensor on these things?

Think the 2.9 has a map sensor. It's on the firewall somewhere I think. It's been awhile since I've dealt with the 2.9

It has a air charge temp ACT and a MAP the ACT is in the intake plenum pull it out and clean with rubbing alcohol or electrical cleaner and put a new vacuum line on the map sensor. Disconnect the battery while your doing that you must reset the computer when cleaning or replacing any sensor. Run it for at least 20 minutes somtimes it takes a couple warm up cycles for the computer to set new values. Replace the PCV if over a year old and all vacuum lines that are hard or cracked.

the map is on the passenger side fender towards the back of the air filter box.
