Bronco II from Northeast GA

My wife bought me an early Christmas present, I have always wanted to build a 4x4 so she bought me an 84 Bronco II 4x4, 2.8 all stock, no rust or dents. Now I just have to figure out where to start. I am in Northeast GA and have very little experience with this stuff.

How 'built' will this built 4x4 be?

I'd start with a Dana 35, 8.8, 4.0, Suspension lift, Tires, Lockers..

There are threads and articles on doing all this.

I am in Lawrenceville, GA about 30 minutes NE of Atlanta. I had thought about Dana 44, 302, and 33's. However, I like the idea of the 4.0 w/Dana 35 8.8 and I really like the Rough Country 4 inch lift. I need to find out how hard it would be to put a 4.0 in and if the Rough Country will work with new axles or if I will need to do a bunch of fabricating.

the rough country lift will work if your talking about for the 35 and 8.8... and theres plenty of info here for the 4.0 swap!

True, it will work. The only issue is due to the size difference of the stock Dana 28 axle housing & the Dana 35 axle housing. The Dana 35 is obviously bigger & the Rough Country axle drop brackets can come into contact with the housing when flexing causing damage. I am not sure if there is a mod you can do or not other than extending the front bump stops quite a bit, the downside to this is you would have very limited flex.

I am obviously not very educated on this subject, if you ask about it under the 4x4 suspension section you will get more info.

b2's right. you deff. have to extend your bump stops to keep the bracket off of your d35 axle housing. and im not sure either if there are any other mods you could do to stop that from happening.

or you could go with a different lift like a duff or i think a skyjacker that has the stock looking drop bracket only longer rather then the plate that you bolt the stock bracket on. (which is what i have, only i still have the stock d28)
