The motor itself is basically a bolt-in, obviously. The big "other" items are the fuel system and engine management system. The original '84 setup was carberation with an engine-mounted mechanical fuel pump; the 2.9L will need the electric fuel pump(s) the feed and return lines, and perhaps the tank. The engine management for the 2.9L would involve swapping the computer, wiring harness and related sensors/actuators over into the '84 along with the engine itself.
Definitely a better proposition if you've got a good, whole donor truck to work from; just a bare motor and you're going to do a lot of parts scrounging.
What are the plans for the transmission? That'll come into play, too.
