Bronco 2 doesn't get hot

Put in a 4.0 BIG boy radiator and tbe truck doesn't warm up. Honestly just want to know of a good way to block up the radiator for the cold months. It did warm up with the original radiator but I wanted a new one lol. Currently have a sheet of cardboard covering the front 3/4 of the radiator, however that wasn't enough!

Is the proper thermostat installed?

Radiator is not used in some areas in the winter because its simply too cold and engine is not generating enough heat for thermostat to open

190-195deg thermostat is what Ford specs

To see if your thermostat has failed open is a simple test
Start cold engine and open the hood
Feel upper radiator hose and both heater hoses, all cold of course
Wait 3 or 4 min then check again
Heater hoses should be warmed up
Upper rad hose still stone COLD

If upper rad hose is also warming up then thermostat is OPEN when it should still be closed


The point of the thermostat is to maintain coolant temp at 190degF in the engine
This should show as just under 1/2 on a Ford Temp gauge
So it will not open and allow coolant circulation into the radiator until coolant at the thermostat is above 180degF at least


When a thermostat fails its SUPPOSE to fail OPEN, its a "failsafe" mode so engine doesn't over heat

Agreed, check the thermostat. Either not there or stuck open.
