Ok, it has been slowly getting harder and slower to start. Now finally, it won't start, just clicks. Can't even boost it, battery is fine. So my question is how do I tell what is wrong, if it's the solenoid, starter drive, bendix or starter or what. Voltage on the side of the solenoid that is only hot when the key is in the start postion is the same as the battery voltage, so that is good. I have voltage at the starter on the side that is always hot. I have voltage on the starter on the side that is hot only when key is in the start position. Any ideas?

Take the starter off and have it checked. It sounds like a bad starter to me.

Sounds like bad main battery cables; especially look at the ground cable real closely. For a quick test, try using jumper cable from the battery negative to the engine block. If she starts with the jumper, but not without it, replace the negative battery cable.

I thought about the grounds, tried your check, it didn't help. I think it is the starter. I will pull it off when I have some time in a couple days and take it to partsource to get it checked.

Hope it's something simple and cheap- good luck.
