Can anyone tell me why my engine would break a valve spring on the #1 cylinder?

Thats pretty uncommon. How many miles does the truck have?

It has roughly 85,000 and it's an '04. It did this all of a sudden not a gradual thing I would have noticed.

My guess is manufactures defect. Are u sure its the spring not the valve?

Over Reving can cause valve train damage real fast, miss a shift near redline, pull to low a gear at to high a speed, etc.

I know its the spring cause I have the broken one in my hand. What exactly do you consider to be over revving? As far as I can remember I have never pushed it past 4500 RPM's.

You just drew the short straw! It is more than one in a million. Prolly a factory defect that wasn't caught by the inspection department.
