Broken Swaybar Link

I have a 2008 Ranger with a 4" Superlift kit and today I was under my truck and noticed the passenger side swaybar link was no longer attached. It separated at the ball joint on the bottom and now I'm wondering if it's broken and needs to be replaced or if popping it back in place (which I managed to do after some time) solved the problem.

I'm also wondering what caused it to happen and if there is anything I can do to prevent it from happening again. It has limiting straps mounted beside the swaybar links but maybe they're too long? The straps don't appear to be adjustable...

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I'm concerned to drive it until I get this figured out! Thanks

The older trucks have links with rubber bushings on the ends, very durable. The later stuff has balljointed swaybar links, not so durable. many of the off road guys just take them off and enjoy the better ride. Others make quickly detachable links so they can connect them for highway use and remove them for trail use. I would just rip them off and enjoy the ride.

My Jeep had quick disconnect swaybar links and it was sketchy driving it on the street disconnected - is the Ranger pretty stable without them? My truck is my daily driver...

i don't think i've had a ranger that i havent broken a sway bar link on, and ive never put them back on

I drove my '03 around for about 6 months with only one side connected, then the other side finally broke too, the truck will lean a little bit in a corner if you're aggressive with it. If not then you probably won't even notice. I did order a set from LMCtruck when I ordered some other parts, put them on and barely noticed a difference tightened back up.

For what it's worth, drive it for while and decide. It'll be fine either way.

Alright, sounds like the general consensus is to just remove the other side too - which is great coz it's a lot cheaper than buying replacements! I'll do it today if it isn't raining too hard.

On a related note - should remove those limiting straps beside the swaybar links too?

Removed mine and the smoother ride over bumps and freer articulation far outweighs the little lean in tight corners.
