i would take it somewere just to be safe, i wouldnt want it leaking that crystal stuff if it has got it in the screen. that sucks good luck on fixin it. you could always hill billy it and use ducttape lol j/k

The hinge area of mine cracked out a bit, and I took it back to the store and they told me it would be $99.99 for a Diagnostic and $39.99 for shipping so I just decided to be gentle when opening and closing it. And its only 6 mo old and under warranty. It may be fixable but if it has a warranty don't expect them to cover since they will mostlikely consider it abuse.

i never thought of that good point:icon_thumby:

Those things can be pricey...
You might try looking on Flea-bay for someone selling the same model with a fried Motherboard or something. Maybe someone's dumped their beer down the keyboard and killed the thing, but the LCD is still good.

If you don't absolutely NEED the portability...

Buy a USB mouse/keyboard and a monitor and use it as a desktop.

You'll never even have to open it up.

Not mine, but take a careful look at the computer on the left...:woot:

I had some problems with my Toshiba Satellite A70. The power adapter socket f!cked up and wouldn't charge the battery or power up the computer at all. I took it apart and took off the socket, soldered on a pair of wires and made the socket connection external. Works fine now.
Point is that taking apart the laptop was easy . I could replace the screen on mine in about 5 minutes. If you can find a replacement screen for reasonable $$ , fix it yourself.
Google your brand of laptop and find instructions for disassembly.
