About 5 years ago I swapped out the automatic in my '95 2wd Ranger for a 5MOD. I got a 94 truck for $400 as opposed to $2200+ for the overhaul. Swapped the pedal assembly. Troubles with the inertia switch on the clutch pedal have been frequent. I noticed excessive play in the pedal pivot rod today and took out the pedal assembly. The aluminum casting is cracked where the plastic bushing goes into it. Tomorrow is U-Pick It day but I see the supply of Rangers is rather skimpy. Is the pedal assembly common to most Rangers or did they change after 2000. Seems that there were several changes about 2000, motors, computers, front suspension, etc.

I'm not sure.your best bet is to stay in the 3rd gen trucks, 93-97. But 98 -01 may be close enough.

By the way, if you end up looking for parts online, that is the clutch switch or clutch safety switch, which interrupts the starting circuit if you donthave the clutch disengaged. The "inertia switch" is mounted to the firewall over on the passenger side. It trips in the event of an accident that provides an excessive amount of inertia, thereby cutting power to the fuel pump to prevent a fire. Totally different circuit.

Thanks for the correction re the switch. I remember my mother had to have the mechanic come to the house to fix the Escort after she backed into the tree out front.
I found the numbers 201251 K on the pedal and looked it up. Seems to be rather common to Rangers and Explorers. the nearest U Pick has over a dozen Rangers and 29 Explorers so my odds are good

Happy hunting!

First vehicle I got to was an Explorer and the pedal looked different so I skipped to the Rangers. Out of about a dozen, 2 had standard trannies. The first one had locked doors and good glass so I bypassed it. The second had what I needed. When I got it out, easy because the 2 top bolts weren't in it, I found marking paint from a different junkyard. Cost me $43 plus tax and I got the updated clutch switch too.
Now I'm waiting for the "intermittent" problem to become constant. It acts like I get a slug of water to the injectors. I've changed fuel pumps 3 times in the last year and cleaned the tank each time (no water in tank). Sooner or later it will stop running and then I'll find what the problem is.
