Thank you for this forum and all the free information and assistance that it provides. I love my truck but the yoke broke, the driveshaft fell down and the mechanic/tow guy stole half my driveshaft and made off with my money. How do I determine the length to look for without being able to measure the whole thing? I just have the long piece, I know there’s an E57A and an E67A but I don’t know the measurements of those either. I found a yard with both...should I buy em both? I also found a guy who will make one but he of course needs the length. He, I guess, could just make the short piece but will need the length of that also.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I don’t get to drive it much only in 4WD.
Cheers,
Lance

I kinda doubt the tow truck driver stole you broken driveshaft... call them and tell them you need it back.

Or slide under the truck with a tape measure and measure what you have.... then go to the yard and measure the two they have and buy the one that fits.

Is it a 2-piece drive shaft or single? I doubt the tow company did that as well. They already made a lot of money off you so what good is a broken drive shaft? Have you called them? If they are licensed then they can be held responsible. Normally once you tell a business you are going to bad mouth them all over facebook they change their attitude. I'm sure they have plenty of competition so they don't need bad word of mouth.

I thought I could get some practical information here.

You kinda doubt it huh? Well thanks for the vote of confidence. Calling them? Well, don’t you imagine I did that, with no success and that’s why I am asking these questions.

Measure what I’ve got???...what I have is a three foot section with a splined end that slips into the missing piece (the one I mentioned) with no numbers on it. The junk yards that have one or both are on the other side of the country, none local.

you know, if I needed a lesson in diplomacy from a guy who didn’t believe me in the first place....

regards,

I have one piece....I think there’s another. I thought I made that clear.

and you doubt my word as well, great!

and finally, the lesson in dealing with other people....big help.
Voila, my truck’s fixed.

Hmmmm… someone woke up cranky today.

It really sounds like you have what’s normally referred to as a 1-piece drive shaft. See photo below. To start with, you could get under the truck and measure from yoke to yoke for a ballpark overall length. Also, it might help someone help you if you list more pertinent info about the truck. Drive shaft length will be different depending on whether it’s single cab short bed, extended cab short bed, long bed, manual or auto transmission, RWD vs 4x4, etc.

What he describes is a two piece I'm pretty sure...

That's why I said get under the truck and measure. You measure what isn't there... seemed self explanatory to me.

It's really hard to give an accurate answer without all the details

Post a pic of what’s left of your driveshaft.

I have questions about the questions.

1) Is this a regular cab, or extended cab truck?

2) Long bed or short bed?

3) What's the wheel-base?

4) Auto or manual?

5) 2wd or 4x4. You vaugley touched on it probably being a 4x4, I just want to be sure.

I know these seem a bit odd, but they all figure into drive-shaft type and length, and thus will help us figure out what you actually need.

I just want to know...

Who in the hell steals a busted up driveshaft?

I think it fell off during the towing process. Lost. Not stolen.
