Hi everyone - I got my son a 1995 ranger - 4 liter 10 months ago. It broke a flex plate 2 months ago. I had a garage put new one in ( there very good ). It just broke flex plate again. First owner put a 2000 - 4 liter motor in it. It runs like new, no problems with tranmy, A very nice truck. But this is a very big puzzel. Anything someone can think of that i may have missed. Thanks to anyone for some answers. jj96

pics and details of the failed flex plate would help.

There, a designation of location other than where one is. IE- put it over there.

They're, a contraction meaning they are. IE- They're very good.

Repeated broken flex plates on a Cologne engine is usually due to a worn spacer. There is a metal spacer, about an inch thick, that goes between the crank and the flex plate on these engines. If the hub of it wears out, and it happens, it will cause the flex plate to break. Make sure that spacer gets replaced any time the flex plate does, they are sold individually.

Broken flex plate 2nd time

thank you guy,s. With the info on this site and a transmission man today and looking over my parts very good - The garage should not have put it back together. the shaft that go,s into the flex plate on the converter is very bad. it needs a converter. Some years 95 - 2000 have a spacer, Its made in the plate. some do not. 97 has that go,s in front of plate. It had to be warn bad when the 1st owner put motor in it. The 2nd owner only had it 10 months. I,m the 3rd guy with the problems. I will put a picture up tomarow. jj96
