Yeah I got careless while chucking some wood into the bed of my '98 Ranger and cracked the back window, here's a pic from the inside (click on link): http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb153/sgull1/010-1.jpg
I'd like to save some money by trying to fix/replace it myself but could use some instruction/advice.
1. Just the one section there behind the driver side is cracked. Do I need to replace the whole window or is it possible maybe cheaper to fix just the one section?
2. Any specific instruction, step by step type, would be helpful.
3. Please ignore the broken cab light in the picture, I know I need to fix that too, but advice on the back window is what I need. Please.
Any comments/suggestions welcome.

I don't know about replacing just one section but you may want to check the junk yards for another rear glass. Also if it is standard cab it is a lace in, but the extended cabs use urethane to hold the rear glass. plexi glass might work if your not picky on looks.

It's gonna be easiest and maybe cheapest to just go and get a window from a junk yard and to put it in there are 8 bolts on the inside you have to undo. 3 on top, 3 on bottom and one on each side under the panels around it, you just pull them out a bit and put in a 9mm box-end wrench and you're good to go. after you get all of the bolts out you'll have to push little at a time all the way around the window to apply even pressure to put the window out. once it's out you'll have to clean up the mess from the old sealant and then apply the new sealant to either the truck or the window. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR TIME AND SEAL IT RIGHT! I didnt do that the first time and I had to pull it out and seal it again. I got the window sealant from autozone put it in the caulking gun and tried to rush the process. make sure you've got a nice big bead going all the way around to keep out the water when you put it in. then just push it in all the way and bolt it back up and you're done

Where are you? I have a slider from a 99 standard cab. I am in MD 21921

i handle glass claims for an insurance company and we always replace the whole window. even if just one window is broken

It's a standard cab. What is meant by lace in? Window removed by prying around rubber seal as shown in link posted here by Colin? Since it's not an extended cab I don't need to worry about urethane? Thanks

I'm in Alaska. Shipping all the way from Maryland would likely be un-feasible cost wise, unfortunately. Dang it.

Thanks for that link. So with my '98 standard cab it should be the same easy removal steps just has shown? No bolts to remove or old sealant to remove? How about the installation of the replacement window? How is that done?

My 99 with standarb cab was a bolt in with butyl...wasn't a lace in. I would assume 98 is the same.

Sounds do-able. Thanks. So I shouldn't need to worry about trying to take the rubber window seal out, or obtaining a new seal? Right?

Yeah like in the link, but basilfaulty may be right it may be bolt in i don't know when they switched styles.

Just take off the trim on the inside and see what you've got.
