I’m looking for a broken 4x4 ranger xlt with locking differentials. Send me what you got, I’m not to worried about the engine or transmission. Anywhere around Nashville Tn. Super cab would be nice.

Do you mean locking differential? Or the locking hubs like on the front axle?

Aren’t the locking hubs for engaging four wheel drive? There should be a diff lock at least for the rear.

Not factory until 2019. It's gonna be really hard to fins someone with aftermarket lockers selling anything in this area. It goes FAST. I wish you luck.

There is the factory limited slip rear. That's pretty common. I've heard rumors of using a Jeep D35 rear limited slip unit in a front axle. Have even considered trying it myself.

I thought fx4 had locking diff?

I'd forgotten about those. And it's not all FX4. Just 2002 and 03+ FX4 "Level 2". Also not a true locking differential AFAIK. It's a form of limited slip that doesn't use clutches called a Torsen.

And they are RARE to find in a junkyard. Also, obsolete from the dealer.

To be honest it will be a very slow build, so if I could just get a 4x4 with a super cab frame I can take it from there. 8.8inch axle would be nice, but I would like to swap in an axle from an explorer with disk brakes.

Depending on the year, 4x4 supercab frames can be easy or hard to find.

I have an 04 2wd supercab frame…. Easy swap to 4x4 bc all the brackets are there. Whereas I also have a 94 supercab frame… not so easy to swap to 4x4 bc the engine crossmembers are different between 2 and 4wd.

Well then, how difficult would it be for a 99 to swap to a 4x4? I think they changed body styles in 2001.

Depends on location a great deal id imagine..

Anywhere in the salt belt a 4x4 extendo cab will be the most common truck to find for sale.. probably not the case in states that don't traditionally have to deal with snow though.. then they'd be 2wd extendo cabs.

Like.. converting a 2wd frame to 4x4? More effort than it's worth.. unless you want to do a SAS. Going with a SAS would allow you to have an actual locker up front though.. however a front locker is likely way overkill unless your gonna be doing some serious offroading.

Go big or go home if you ask me. It may take twenty years, but I’ll do it right the first time.
