Broke Teeth - 4.10, L/S, 8.8, 2001

I assembled the gears, etc. and one axle (since I don't have the other) and ended up w/ about 0.022" gap between it and the center pin. According to the rebuild thread in the tech section, this gap should be between 0.003" and 0.015". Is this measurement with pressure pulling the axle out, or w/ it sitting "idle" and no force on it? Once I know how to take this measurement accurately, I think I am well on my way. Getting the spider gears back in was a lot easier than I thought it would be (with this much gap anyway.) They do seem tight, so it isn't that I have a lot of slack, but I do wonder if I need to try to get another shim in behind them.

Thoughts?
