Yep its toast. Finally did the work on my truck. Got some help and start this morning about nine. Started tearing into her and by about one finally got the tranny seperated from the truck. Took the liberty of putting the shift motor on the transfer case! Anyway we took the tail housing of and look through that little passage on the bottom of the tranny and could see broken peices.
We removed the inspection cover on the top and took a look. The forward most gear on the counter shaft (? lower rail of gears) was chipped up like crazy. Teeth broken off like crazy. So now im trying to find a tranny. I love this. haha:icon_hornsup:

this would be good time to swap in a 5 speed if you dont already...have fun

Have fun..I had mine go out in August and FINALLY i think its fixed now..i didnt do it myself b/c i dont know a lot about a transmission yet..i had a year warranty and took it back 4 times because it wasnt right..now it is and this morning i got in it to go to work and had a hell of a time starting it..i think the starter is going out now..its just one thing after another

shit i dont know. I have only had it for a bout 15k miles. I was easy on it too.

my fm145 chewed through the shift rails at 247 k miles because the countershaft bearings took a dump. put in a fm146 which is significantly better because no one tried running 90 weight in it, and you can't spin the shifter halfway around with it in gear which is nice.

How do you break a manual transmssion?

If it's low on fluid, which the Mazda is prone to doing through the shitty rubber shift rail plugs, then that will eat a tranny up real quick. I suggest replacing the rubber plus with metal feeze plugs, or threaded plugs(there was a thread on this recently). Good luck!
