I recently Niteshaded my taillights on my ranger. I really like the way it looks, but the brake lights aren't very bright during the day. I was wondering if I could get brighter bulbs to put in them. The law in Illinois is that the brake lights have to be visible from 500 feet, and I honestly don't know if mine are visible from that far away. Like others have mentioned, I dont wanna get rear ended and then get sued.

try some LEDs. if you have 194s my brother in law is actually selling a set of bulbs

niteshading tail lights is also illegal. you need to worry about a ticket.

As long as they aren't too dark, you don't need to worry about a ticket unless someone is having a bad day...

But you may just want to remove it and try again, and not go as dark...

how do I know if mine are 194's? My truck's a 98 2wd ranger....the lights are red in the middle with clear on top and orange on the bottom

illegality may very well depend on what state you're in. but it does stand to reason that anything you put on your lens to darken it is going to reduce the amount of light can be seen through it. and what will your insurance company say if your rear-ended by someone who claims they didn't see your lights? you pay your money, you take your chances. just my $.02.

Agreed... I like the way it looks but kinda wish I didnt do it now just in case a got rear ended

Got to Advance and get some Silverstar 3157's. They are brighter than standard but like every else said you may have made them too dark.

I picked up some of the silver stars today. It made a huge difference and im not so worried about my lights not being bright enough now
