so im almost done putting in a new 2.9 long block but need a little help with what i am to do about breaking it in and what all i should and shouldnt do. also would i be ok to take on a long trip with not that many miles on the new engine? thanks alot for any help.

Yep! Just go for it.. Racing engines are installed and ran right off the bat.. Modern engines are so sophisticated they are ready to go right now..

Is it a new cam? I usually run mine for about 20-30 minutes at around 2,000 RPM w/ no load for break in. I also prime the engine before first start, an oil pump prime can be made out of an old distributor. Around 1000 miles on my 5.0, I've taken it on a few road trips no problems. Just need to make sure you don't have any hoses leaking, oil leaks, etc and you shouldn't have much to worry about given the engine was assembled correctly.

Only advice I ever got that sounded good was don't maintain a constant RPM for an extended time.. ie. Don't head down the Interstate with cruise set 75mph for 125 miles. Just vary your speed for the first 1000 miles. Otherwise just drive like your always gonna drive...

And don't use full synthetic oil until after the first oil change. Change oil at 1000 to check for/remove any particals in it.
