Brand new starter grinding on start. Engine starts every time but seems to slip/ not catch all the time.


To be sure they are not leaking go over them like I mentioned listening carefully for leaks to be sure.

In my experience once they start to deteriorate they will start to leak soon after. Some ports are not used from the manifold so it is not uncommon for "ports" to be plugged off but not hoses. A screw in a vacuum line usually indicates a change in the system somehow from a stock config.
 
Come on pickle rick... vacuum lines literally cost like 2 bucks. Fix that shiznat. I'll call the freaking jaguar on you broh. You want that broh?
 
The starter issue is probably caused by the alignment plate being worn. If it isn't fixed take the starter back out and inspect the bolt holes in the plate between the engine and trans. I had one doing the same thing and found the upper starter bolt hole egged out.

At least you only have rain. It's been colding here since the beginning of November and it is only predicted to get worse.
